Artemin (ARTN) is a secreted disulfide-linked homodimer that belongs to the GDNF family of ligands. It is known to be expressed by embryonic smooth muscle cells and Schwann cells. Artemin promotes sensory neuron survival and likely plays a role in the development of the peripheral nervous system. It signals through the receptor tyrosine kinase (RET)/GFR-alpha 3 receptor complex.
